Online Assessments

"Assessment" is a process of assessing and evaluating the individuals' progress by collecting information through different methods and tools (e.g. exams, quizzes, in-class discussion, observation, presentations...etc.)(Tsagari et al., 2018). Assessments are highly significant and play an important role in the enhancement and development of the "Teaching-Learning process" when they are implemented correctly, in the perfect time for specific targets and for certain purposes.

The implementation of different assessments' tools depend on what is needed to be evaluated, why there is a need for this evaluation, when it should be conducted, how this assessment should be implemented, and what are assessments specifications that teachers need to follow in designing their assessments?

Based on the answers to the questions above, teachers design their assessments. However, these days because of COVID-19 and the current situation that led to force students to learn through online platforms. Therefore, tests and class activities needed to be designed and conducted through digital tools (e.g. through mobile apps or web sites).

Here are some FREE, simple, and great apps and websites can be used to design a quiz or an activity:

  1. Kahoot (web-based & mobile app)
  2. Socrative (web-based & mobile app)
  3. Make it (mobile app)
  4. Quizizz (web-based & mobile app)
  5. Wordwall (web-based)

From my own experience, my favorite one is "Wordwall" it is definitely easy and simple, and teachers would have the choice to design their assessment the way they like and want. This website offers teachers different options, teachers can design their assessments as games, and they can also create formal assessments. I definitely recommend teachers to use it. Another app that I liked is "Make it", it is great to use it to create games, or when you teach in a primary schools.
