Online Teaching
According to UNISCO, there are 264 million students who do not go to schools, but since the spread of COVID-19 in 2020 the numbers are much worse. As a result of the global pandemic, the schools and universities all around the world are closed, and people move towards Online Teaching as an alternative (Mishra, Gupta, & Shree, 2020). They believe that this movement is a result of urgent need to keep the educational system unaffected, hence, online teaching became a “pedagogical shift” that replaces traditional teaching methods and approaches. Therefore, our normal classes shifted from classrooms to online platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and BigBlueButton ... etc.
Since April last year, Zoom has earned at least 300 million daily users around the world, and while it seems one of the most famous apps used for online teaching, if not the most famous, yet it is not always the perfect choice for online classes, and this is because it has a 40 minutes time limit. Therefore, the question is what is the solution for this problem? the better solution is to look for some good alternatives. Thus, the important question is what could replace a great app like Zoom? Here are some good options:
- BigBlueBotton
- Microsoft Teams
- Google Meet
- Skype
- BlueJeans
- JioMeet
First, the advantages of Online teaching:
- This method helped to keep the schools to move forward despite the current situation, and to continue learning.
- This method gives students a flexible access to all materials provided by school and teachers.
- It provided students who are struggling with poor internet connection with the opportunity of having Recorded lectures/classes.
- Students learn to be completely responsible about learning, stay focused, and organized since all classes can be attended through the same device, hence they keep notes and materials organized.
- Some students and teachers lack the ability to correctly use digital tools that are used for virtual learning.
- Some students do not and cannot have devices or enough devices at home, hence they cannot attend their classes and eventually they possibly will fail their classes.
- Some irresponsible students would sleep during classes and cheat during exams since there is no one watching them.
- Some studies reveals that students struggle with keeping themselves concentrated and active during the class because of the nature of Online classes
