My Experience with Technology in Learning and Teaching

     From my experience in Dhofari schools, the absence of technology did not go unnoticed. As a former student in a school that did not encourage the use of digital tools inside classrooms and offers around 30 computers in a school that has over 1000 students, I had asked myself many times how easy and different things could be if my school provided more computers and supported the use of technology in teaching. My questions and wonders were answered when I got to university and saw the difference technology made to the quality of teaching. Digital tools act as GPS for teachers, and this is the perfect analogy because GPS helps people to reach their destinations, and digital tools help teachers to improve their teaching strategies of finding and delivering information or lessons. Moreover, the benefits of digital tools are not limited to teachers, but technology, generally, is highly beneficial and essential for students as well. As a student, digital tools help me in preparing for presentations and writing my homework, assignments, and research studies. Hence, technology is an integral and indispensable element for the teaching-learning process. 




    As a future teacher, I strongly believe that teaching and technology should not and cannot be separated because the quality of teaching is, to some extent, dependent on the use of digital tools. However, this does not imply that teachers cannot teach without the use of technology, but it means that teachers teach better when all the helpful and useful tools are provided, and digital tools are, undoubtedly, highly significant and advantageous. From two different past experiences in teaching, one is with traditional methods by using whiteboards and printed pictures, and another with the use of a projector, PowerPoint, videos, and Google. I believe that the second way of teaching is better and helped the students to participate more and understand better. Therefore, when I become a teacher I plan to use digital tools in teaching to improve my teaching quality and provide my students with all the possible options for a better understanding. Additionally, I advise all teachers of using technology and signing for workshops that provide teachers the opportunity to learn about how to make technology serve their pedagogical issues and needs.

This disease has affected people and prevented them from practicing their lives the ways they used to be.
